Ricardo Jimenez is probably one of the most well known publicists in the boxing world today, but before that he was a newspaperman true and true. He began his editorial career in 1985 at La Opinion Newspaper, the largest Spanish daily in the United States and 15 years later would leave that newspaper as only the third sports editor in the 75 year history of the most prestigious Spanish language paper in the United States. Fresh out of College in 1984, Jimenez started at La Opinion covering the professional basketball and football beats, rising very quickly to become one of the most well known football experts in the country as he participated in local and national radio broadcasts throughout the United States. Jimenez traveled the nation covering both the Los Angeles Raiders and Lakers for over 15 years and expanding his knowledge of other sports, such as tennis, baseball, boxing and soccer. He was recruited to do play by play for the Pre-season Raiders Football games and the blow by blow commentator for "KCAL FIGHT NIGHT" on Los Angeles local Channel 9. His work on those telecast garnered him three local Emmy's and his writing won him a ‘Sportscaster of the Year’ honor from the World Boxing Organization. As a writer he covered 10 consecutive Super Bowls, Five NBA Finals, One World Series and countless of world championship fights. He also penned a very popular column "Anotando" where he took on all controversial aspect of professional sports. His reporting, editing skills and dependability earned him the Sports Editor Job at La Opinion in 1997, becoming only the third person to be named to that position in the long history of the well-known paper. As a Sports Editor his page won honors for coverage of the 1998 FIFA World Cup in Japan/Korea. He also spearhead several projects that lead the paper to increase its circulation, such as special supplements for major world title fights and special soccer editions leading to the Soccer World Cup. In 2000, he was recruited by Bob Arum, President and Founder of Top Rank Inc, the largest boxing promotional company in the world to help promote the top Hispanic boxers in that boxing company as well as promoting two boxing series for Univision and DirecTV Latin America. Over the last six years, Jimenez has taken Erik Morales, Jose Luis Castillo, Antonio Margarito, Miguel Cotto and many others to the next level as they have become household names in the Latino markets in the United States, Puerto Rico and Mexico. As Top Rank publicist, Jimenez handles all promotional opportunities for the Hispanic boxing stars of Top Rank, from arranging newspapers, radio and television interviews for the fighters, to translation and serving as a liaison for Top Rank and the such top television networks as HBO, Showtime, ESPN, Univision and Telefutura where Top Rank Boxers appear regularly. He can coordinate an event from top to bottom. He can write and distribute press releases in English and Spanish to over 100 media sources in the United States, Puerto Rico and Mexico, as well as organize Press Conferences and work behind the cameras to ensure that the narrators, producers and technicians have the necessary information to give the fans as complete a telecast as possible, and for the boxing promoters to get their money's worth on any Top Rank event. His work led him to be call the best "PR MAN" in the sports business by Telefutura and Univision Sports Anchor Ricardo Celis in a recent Hispanic Wire Monitor Monthly Newsletter. The most important thing for Jimenez is exposure for his fighters and his shows. "I have to create opportunities for everyone. I work the phones and will always go the extra mile to assure that my fighters and my events get as much exposure as possible. No one is too small for me and no one is so big that I can't get some coverage for". He also has promoted Street Festivals in Los Angeles in 1995 and spearheaded the PR campaign in the United States for "Copa Libertadores" in Pay-Per-view in 2002. Jimenez has a Bachelor Degree in Business Management from Cal St. University in Fullerton (1983).
